Wedding cakes and micro weddings
If you are getting married at the end of 2020 or early in 2021, firstly, congratulations! Your day might be rather more intimate than you originally planned or maybe this was how you always wanted it to be, but whichever is the case, this will be one of the most special days in your life.
It might seem daunting planning your wedding cake for a micro wedding, especially if you had a larger affair planned that has been significantly pared down. For a wedding cake is supposed to be the centrepiece at your wedding breakfast and is this achievable on a smaller scale? I am pleased to say, yes! Firstly, I want to assure you that there is no reason for you not to go all out and have a large multi-tiered cake if you want to - I know that my cakes can be frozen and maintain their taste and texture, or you can of course portion cake up and post / deliver to family and friends who could not make it on the day. However, what if you do not want to have lots of extra cake? How can this be managed while still creating that beautiful centrepiece? Well, one way to do so would be to still have multiple tiers but smaller ones - you can still have a three tier cake but with smaller tiers you would have less extra portions. You can of course use dummy cakes to create extra height too and these come in a variety of shapes and heights allowing you to create a modern showstopper without ending up with lots of extra portions. If you are happy to, single tier or two tier weddings cakes can also look fabulous - an extra tall single tier cake with lots of sugar flowers can be as eye catching as a four tier cake, especially if you consider the way that it is displayed, for example using elegant cake stands to create extra height again.
There is absolutely no reason to feel that a wedding cake has to be a three tier creation, I for one am looking forward to designing some beautiful smaller creations this year.
